Just wait till they’re teenagers

When these two young ladies were tiny, I remember several outings when a complete stranger would walk up and say, “Your daughters are such sweethearts. But just wait till they’re teenagers.” As if on the eve of their 13th birthday they would turn into 3 headed monsters. So, in an effort to encourage the sweet young mamas I know; Yes, just wait till they are teenagers... you will be in awe of their purity, virtue, and heart to follow Jesus.

Just wait till they are teenagers when your heart bursts with joy over the respect and love they have for their daddy (and you!).

Just wait till they’re teenagers and they become the world’s best role-models for their younger siblings (and other children); encouraging and celebrating them in a million different ways.

Just wait till they’re teenagers who blow you away with the way they search the Bible for answers, make wise decisions, work hard even when no ones watching, and shine brightly for Christ in their generation.

Just wait till they’re teenagers, not afraid to be uniquely themselves, choose the most fantastic friendships, and have incredible compassion for those in need.

Just wait till they are teenagers because they will be the people you love to take shopping, out for coffee dates, and have all the deep conversations with. (They might also give their mama great fashion advice!)

Just wait till they’re teenagers and you all pray, cry, laugh, learn together and are there for each other in the hardest times.

Just wait till they’re teenagers and you want to hang out in their bedroom with the cool twinkle lights, polaroids on the walls, and the best music playing (have I mentioned how much fun teenagers are!?!).

Just wait till they’re teenagers who remind you that the old is good, but the new is really great too.

Just wait till they are teenagers who inspire you to serve the Lord more fervently by watching them step out in faith to serve Him too.

Just wait till they are teenagers, your sweet little girls (who have gotten taller and older) are going to bless your mommy heart in so many ways! You may find, as I have, that these years become some of your very favorite on this mothering journey!

** I’m not saying the teenage years are always easy, but no season of life or parenting is for that matter. Let’s focus on the good (Philippians 4:8) and use this time to trust the Lord, be on our knees in prayer, and draw near to  the One who loves our children even more than we do!**
