Wrapping up spring soccer season 2020

Our family has really appreciated the youth sports programs on the military bases we've been stationed. It feels like yesterday (11-years-ago!) we were buying a pink pair of soccer socks for a very eager, 5-year-old Savannah, who couldn't wait to get on the field! And, whenever he's home, my Hero takes time out of his crazy busy work schedule to coach; investing in the lives of our children and others. He inspires me! It's amazing to see a decorated war hero get down on his knee to gently teach and encourage a 5-year-old soccer player. To see him jump with excitement as they run towards the coach and into a high-five-huddle after scoring a goal. To see him rush home from work to take off his military uniform, exchanging it for a coach's uniform because he believes in the value of mentoring and inspiring the next generation. Yes, 20 years ago I married a keeper and I learn so much from him every single day!

A good coach can change a game. A great coach can change a life.

It was Joshua's 1st soccer season; he, his "Tiger" teammates, and coach daddy had a great time learning the fundamentals and running all over that grassy field. The evenings that Savannah and Alisa were available, they stepped in as very helpful assistant coaches. And our big boy, Levi scored two goals his last game and then took over as goalie for the second half. He is passionate, determined, and a great encouragement to his other teammates. He really loves to win (don't we all) but he has learned a lot from the trials of losing games this go-round. It's been good.

Savannah has been reffing and I'm constantly amazed by how she handles issues on the field (and with parents) with grace and strength. She loves kids and it shows beautifully as she helps them learn good sportsmanship and safety as they play.

One of the biggest blessings this season was having Papa and Nana (amazing cheerleaders!) join us for a morning of Saturday games. Joshua couldn't stop smiling and waving at them, forgetting he was playing a game. What a blessing to have cheerleaders in our lives, huh? It makes me want to do a better job cheering on my Hero, our kiddoes, and all the special people God has placed in my life... as this soccer season comes to a close, we look forward to the next one!
